Mumbai, March 24: Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Lok Sabha election from Akola. Akola Lok Sabha seat is one of the 48 parliamentary constituencies in Maharashtra. Akola Lok Sabha seat went to polls on April 18 in the second phase of general elections.

Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre has been renominated from Akola by the BJP. Congress has fielded Hidayat Ulla Barkat Ulla. Dhotre defeated Hidayat Ulla in the 2014 elections. The process of filing nomination for Akola Lok Sabha polls began on March 19. The last day for nominations was March 26. Of the 48 seats in Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena combine bagged 41 in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The NCP won four seats and the Congress two. Lok Sabha elections will take place in seven phases - on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19.
