Lucknow, December 20: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav has recently claimed that over 300 MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are upset with Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath and the current law and order situation in the state.
He made this statement, two days after over 100 BJP MLAs raised their voice in the state assembly when party MLA Nand Kishore Gujjar was denied permission to speak about his alleged ill-treatment by police, according to a Hindustan Times report.
CM Yogi reportedly later met around two dozen party lawmakers in a bid to address their concerns over alleged non-cooperation by the state police and to look into their other grievances. The situation turned violent in the state at several places on Thursday after people were on the streets to protest against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). From buses being torched to other public properties being vandalised, police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Internet was suspended in several areas in view of the violent protests.
The Samajwadi Party leaders held a rally outside the state assembly in Lucknow on Thursday to protest against CAA, atrocities against women and the law and order situation in the state. Yadav who was not part of the protest accused BJP of damaging the constitution. He was quoted saying, "Samajwadi Party opposes CAA. BJP is damaging the constitution. Our democracy and constitution never discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion. BJP is doing this intentionally for power."
