New Delhi, July 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday sent a show-cause notice to its Indore legislature Akash Vijayvargiya who hit a municipal official with a cricket bat. This comes hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sharp disapproval of Akash Vijayvargiya's misconduct and sought action against those involved in the attack. Akash is the son of BJP veteran and party's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya.
The BJP has sent a notice to Akash and sought his explanation for his actions, said reports. The Indore legislator attacked a municipal official with a bat during a demotion drive on June 26. Subsequently, he was arrested. On June 30, he was accorded a "hero's welcome" by his supporters after his release from jail on bail. However, PM Narendra Modi, speaking at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, denounced his misconduct. 'He's a Novice': Kailash Vijayvargiya Defends MLA-Son.
"We do not want any leaders who spoil the party's image. Whosoever's son, such leaders should be removed from the party," PM Modi said in reference to Akash. The Prime Minister also slammed party leaders for giving a rousing welcome to Akash Vijayvargiya after he was released from jail and said: "Those who welcomed him, such leaders should also be sacked from the party." Last week, Union Home Minister and BJP’s national president, Amit Shah, had also sought a report on Akash's actions from the party's Madhya Pradesh unit. Shah had asked the state leadership to provide the exact sequence of events and the role of Akash as well as Congress leaders.
“The Leadership is upset at the way Kailash Vijayvargiya reacted after the arrest of his son. This could hamper BJP’s campaign against Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, which is being spearheaded by Vijayvargiya himself,” a senior BJP leader was quoted by TOI as saying.
