New Delhi, November 26: The CBI informed Patiala House Court that the government has given its sanction to prosecute former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram in the Aircel Maxis case. The government prosecutor has also demanded custodial interrogation of Chidambaram in the case.

The CBI told the court that P Chidambaram was not cooperating in the interrogations and hence demanded custodial interrogation. However, interim protection of Chidambaram and  his son Karti Chidambaram has been extended till December 18, 2018 in the case. The court had set November 26 as the date of hearing on October 25, after the ED named P Chidambaram as prime accused in its charge sheet. Aircel-Maxis Case: ED Names P Chidambaram As Prime Accused In Chargesheet.

The Aircel-Maxis deal scam, which emerged out of the 2G spectrum case, pertains to a grant by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to the firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd for investment in Aircel.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 25 had filed a chargesheet against former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram in the Rs 3,500 crore Aircel-Maxis case. The ED has named seven other accused in the case, including Karti Chidambaram's accountant S Bhaskararaman and four Maxis companies. Chidambaram named as prime accused in the chargesheet.
