Reports said that Ahmed Adeeb wanted to seek political asylum in India. His reason for doing so is alleged "threat to his life" in the Maldives. He is facing trial in corruption cases. Adeeb had become the youngest vice-president of Maldives in 2015. But he was removed from his position following reports of his involvement in bombing attempts on then President Abdullah Yameen.
