New Delhi, April 5: Shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi fired fresh salvo against the Congress top brass over the AgustaWestland scam, former Union Minister Ahmed Patel struck back at the PM, charging him of stooping to "gutter level politics". The Congress veteran also charged Modi of spreading a propaganda to defame him and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Modi, while addressing a rally in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun earlier in the day, said the Agusta charsheet, submitted by the Enforcement Directorate, mentions one "AP" as the prime accused. "That AP means Ahmed Patel," he added.

The ED chargesheet is based upon the statements extracted from key accused Christian Michael, who was extradited from the UAE in December last year.
Michael, who acted as the alleged middleman in the deal, told the Special ED court that the agency's chargesheet was leaked to the media even before being presented before the court. He further alleged that the names included in the chargesheet were not revealed by him.
