After Karnataka, BJP Threatens to Bring Down Congress Government in Madhya Pradesh, CM Kamal Nath Hits Back
Speaking in Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, BJP leader Gopal Bhargav said they can bring down the Congress government withing 24 hours if the instruction comes from "No 1 or No 2" of his party.
Bhopal, July 24: Buoyed by its apparent victory in Karnataka where the Congress-JDS government fell after a trust vote, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to have shifted its focus to Madhya Pradesh. Speaking in Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday, BJP leader Gopal Bhargav said they can bring down the Congress government withing 24 hours if the instruction comes from "No 1 or No 2" of his party.
"Hamare upar wale number 1 ya number 2 ka aadesh hua to 24 ghante bhi aapki sarkar nahi chalegi (If there is an order from our No. 1 or No. 2 then your government will not survive even 24 hours," Bhargav said. Chief Minister Kamal Nath hit back and dared the BJP to bring a No Trust Motion in the assembly on Wednesday itself. He added that those sitting in the House were not up for sale. Kamal Nath Says He’s Ready for Floor Test to Prove Majority.
"Your top No. 1 and No. 2 are sensible, that is why they are not giving such orders. You are free to bring in a no-confidence motion," Nath responded. The Congress party had wrested power from the BJP after Assembly polls held last year. In the 230-member House, the Congress party has 114 legislators. They have a wafer-thin majority in the House with support of Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party.
The BJP had earlier written to then state Governor Anandiben Patel demanding floor test. In response, Nath had said he was ready for it. In Karnataka, the 14-month-old Congress-JDS coalition government fell on Tuesday evening after it failed to prove majority in the floor test in the Assembly.
