It has hardly been two days since the city of Allahabad was renamed to Prayagraj by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh and now there are reports that the district of Sultanpur in UP will be renamed to Kushbhawanpur by the Yogi Adityanath led government. A few months ago, BJP MLA Devmani Dubey, who is the sitting MLA from Sultanpur's Lambhua seat, had proposed a discussion in the UP assembly under Section 311. MLA Devmani has claimed that Sultanpur, which is the supporting district of Ayodhya district, was founded by one of Lord Ram's son, Kush and hence the city was known as Kushbhawanpur before it was named as Sultanpur. The MLA also claimed that Sitakund in the district is a proof of the fact that even Lord Ram's wife Sita had stayed in the district.
In August, the Uttar Pradesh's iconic Mughalsarai station was officially renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction. BJP President Amit Shah and Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present at the programme to mark change of name of the iconic station. The Opposition had opposed the move, claiming that the BJP government was trying to benefit politically by naming and renaming cities before the elections.
