Kolkata, May 19: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and party supremo Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, who is seeking re-election from West Bengal's Diamond Harbour constituency, has sent a defamation notice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the defamation notice sent through his lawyer, Abhishek Banerjee PM Narendra Modi's made "wildly fabricated allegations" against him a public rally in Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency on May 15.

"Your speech, punctuated by false, malicious and defamatory content, was an embodiment of political calculation and mischievous intent. On May 15, PM Modi launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek, accusing them of running the "bua-bhatija model of governance" and turning "Ganatantra" (democracy) into "Gundatantra" (hooliganism). Mamata Banerjee Shouts 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' at TMC's Lok Sabha Rally in West Bengal, Watch Video.

"In West Bengal, your vote will decide if the decades-old politics of bloodshed in the state will stop or not. You will have to decide if you want to save democracy. In the 'Bua-Bhatija model of governance', people of Bengal are living in utter fear except for the infiltrators, cow smugglers, women traffickers, syndicates, extortionists, chit fund leaders, coal and sand mafias. These people are immune to the fear," PM Modi said.

Modi also accused Banerjee, the sitting MP from Diamond Harbour of constructing his office by illegally occupying the road. "I have also been told that as per Trinamool's traditions, nephew's office is also constructed by illegally occupying the road. Didi, you have earned so much, the party has accumulated money through extortion, then why did your nephew illegally take the land kept for the road," he asked.
