New Delhi, May 6: Rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Devinder Kumar Sehrawat on Monday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, right in the middle of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Sehrawat becomes the second AAP MLA to join the BJP within a week.
Anil Kumar Bajpai, the legislator from Gandhinagar, joined the BJP on Friday amid the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2019. He was also received into the BJP by Union Minister Vijay Goel. AAP MLA Anil Kumar Bajpai Joins BJP, Hours After Arvind Kejriwal Said 'His Legislators Will Not be Sold'.
The deflections by AAP leaders comes after the BJP had claimed earlier that 14 AAP MLAs were in touch with the party to switch over, following which, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi if democracy for him meant buying the legislators of Opposition parties.
AAP leader and deputy CM of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, had accused the BJP of trying to buy at least seven of its MLAs saying that it offered them Rs 10 crore each to join the saffron party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comment that "40 TMC MLAs were in touch with him" and that they were waiting to leave the party was criticised by leaders across party lines and the Opposition had asked for action against PM Modi for his comment.
