New Delhi, July 27: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Okhla Amanatullah Khan has admitted his two children to a Delhi government school. Khan's son and daughter, who were earlier studying in a private school, will now be studying at Joga Bai government school in Okhla. The step comes at a time when images of Delhi government schools having better infrastructure and hygiene have been going viral on the social media.
While Khan's son has been admitted to Class IX, his daughter has got admission into Class VI. Khan said his move was also aimed at “inspiring people to shed their bias against the Delhi government schools”. “A lot of changes have taken place in the government schools. Infrastructure has improved manifold while overall quality has also improved,” he said.
https://t.co/NkuXrWlHLs pic.twitter.com/w0aoUAXn0k

This is extraordinary. A big certificate of how Delhi’s govt schools are improving. Before him, another MLA, Gulab Singh, had admitted his kids in govt school. https://t.co/8clwc2WKgX

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lauded Khan's decision. "A big certificate of how Delhi government’s schools are improving. Before him, another MLA, Gulab Singh, had admitted his kids in government school," the Delhi CM tweeted.
Delhi government schools performed better this year in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examination. The pass percentage of Delhi government schools increased to 2.37 percent, touching 90.64 percent, leaving behind the private schools of the city with 88.35 percent of passing students.
Atishi Marlena, former advisor to Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia, said as quoted by TOI that the school where Khan's children have taken admission, delivered an excellent academic performance this year.
