AAP Dharna in Delhi: Party to Hold Protest March From Mandi House to PMO, Says it's a Fight Against 'Dictatorship' of Modi Government
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said that AAP is not expecting people or parties from other states to come and support them. He said 4 CMs have come in AAP’s support.
New Delhi, June 17: As Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's 'dharna' at the office of L-G Anil Baijal continued on the seventh day today, the party has also planned to hold a protest march to the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday evening. Reports inform that CPM's Sitaram Yechury will also support the Aam Aadmi Party's protest march from Mandi House to the Prime Minister's Office today. In wake of AAP’s plan, police personnel will be deployed on various routes leading to the PMO.
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said that AAP is not expecting people or parties from other states to come and support them. He said 4 CMs have come in AAP’s support. “We aren't expecting people or parties from other states to come in our support but 4 CMs have come in our support, for the youngest political party. This is a matter of pride for us. They have come in support of the rights of the people of Delhi”, Bhardwaj said.
The four Chief Ministers those who have extended their support to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's sit-in protest at the Lt. Governor's office include West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee, Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan, Karnataka's H.D. Kumaraswamy and Andhra Pradesh's N. Chandrababu Naidu.
“I assure LG, PMO & Delhi police that there won't be any violence. People just want to tell PM that the LG appointed by him, is doing injustice to Delhi. He'll also be requested to tell IAS officers, who're on strike since last 4 months, to come back to work”, Bhardwaj added.
Protestors in Delhi are believed to assemble at Mandi House at 4 pm and march to the PMO under the party banner to support Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers' sit-in at the lieutenant governor's office for the last six days in their fight against the "dictatorship" of Modi government, the AAP leaders said.
The Delhi Police has, however, said that AAP's call is without any permission. Madhur Verma, DCP New Delhi, told ANI that AAP has not applied for permission for a protest march. At the time of protest, the exit gates of four metro stations will be closed. “The call given by @AamAadmiParty to march towards PM residence or office is without any permission. No permission has been applied for. As such areas of New Delhi district are under prohibitory orders”, the Delhi Police tweet said.
The AAP has been accusing the Centre of misusing its powers to stop Delhi government from working. "Modi government is shamelessly misusing its powers and institutions to stop Delhi government from working for the people," said AAP national secretary Pankaj Gupta. Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues are sitting at the office of Lt Governor Anil Baijal demanding his direction to the IAS officers to end their "strike" and approve doorstep ration delivery scheme, since last Monday.
