Aam Aadmi Party Wants De-registration of Similarly Named AAP Party, Delhi HC Seeks EC Stand
The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that the Aapki Apni Party is an attempt to mislead the voters as both the parties in this case will be called AAP.
New Delhi, Aug 30: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Election Commission and the Aapki Apni Party (Peoples) on a plea submitted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the issue that the poll panel allowed the newly formed Aapki Apni Party to go by the short name AAP. The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that the Aapki Apni Party is an attempt to mislead the voters as both the parties in this case will be called AAP.
Following the Aam Aadmi Party's petition seeking de-registration of the newly formed party, Justice Siddharth Mridul issued notice to the EC and the Aapki Apni Party (Peoples) seeking their stand. The Aam Aadmi Party has sought de-registration of the Aapki Apni Party (Peoples) on the grounds that the abbreviation of both the parties would be the same — AAP — which could make voters confused.
The petition, filed through advocate Anupam Srivastava, claimed that the new party’s name was similar sounding and that could confuse voters. The Aam Aadmi Party has sought quashing of the EC’s July 16 order rejecting its objection against registration of Aapki Apni Party (Peoples) as a political party under provisions of the Representation of People Act.
Who founded the Aapki Apni Party and for what?
Ramveer Chauhan started the 'Aapki Apni Party' and while talking to the media at the launch of the party, he told the media people that BSP Supremo Mayawati has betrayed the dalits in India and that the dalits and bahujans have lost faith in Mayawati and the BSP. Chauhan had said that his party would fight on all the seven seats in Delhi in the Lok Sabha polls. He also said that the Aapki Apni Party will field candidates on all the 70 seats in the Delhi state assembly elections.
