Aaditya Thackeray, Ashok Chavan, Ajit Pawar, Manohar Lal Khattar, Randeep Singh Surjewala Among Leading Candidates in Maharashtra And Haryana Assembly Elections 2019

Mumbai/Chandigarh, October 24: The counting of votes for the results of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana began at 8 am today. While the BJP seemed to be heading towards a decisive win in Maharashtra, there was a tight contest between the saffron party and the Congress in Haryana. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar were among leading candidates, as per numbers available till 8:30 am. In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray was leading from Worli, Ashok Chavan from Bhokar, Ajit Pawar from Baramati and Pankaja Munde from Parli. In Haryana, Congress's Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Dushyant Chautala, Randeep Surjewala, Babita Phogat and Yogeshwar Dutt were among leading candidates. The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance was leading on over 80 seats in Maharashtra, while the Congress-NCP combine was ahead in around 40 constituencies. In Haryana, the BJP and Congress were leading on 19 and 11 seats respectively. In 2014, the BJP came to power winning 122 seats in Maharashtra assembly elections. The Shiv Sena, which broke alliance with BJP ahead of polls, managed to bag 63 seats. The Congress and the NCP contested polls separately and won 42 and 41 seats respectively.
In the 2014 Haryana assembly election, the BJP won 47 seats in the 90 member assembly, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 19 seats, the Congress won 15 seats while others won 9 seats.
