New Delhi,  June 20: In an effort to directly connect with the beneficiaries of his govt's pet schemes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with farmers today via his NaMo app to talk about the government's major schemes projects at boosting their income, and also address the farm sector issue. He appreciated the farmers for making India self-sufficient in the agricultural sector over the decades.

Modi said, "Our government is working to ensure that the incomes of our farmers doubles by 2022. For that we are facilitating needed assistance wherever required. We have faith in the farmers of India." He further highlighted that the agriculture sector has developed rapidly in the last 48 months. The government has further approved a sum of over Rs 2 lakh crore in the Union Budget.

Modi further highlighted that how now middlemen can't take away the hard-earned profits of the farmers. Elaborating on the need for drip irrigation sysem, he said "I always encourage farmers to adopt drip irrigation system. This would lessen the trouble that our farmers have to face in irrigating their crop land. Per drop, more crop should be our motto."

Modi mentioned that India has made a record production of fruits and vegetables. "We have also made coating policy mandatory to bring down sale of fertilisers, despite record farm production," the PM mentioned.

This is the Prime Minister's sixth interaction and previously he had interacted with the beneficiaries of free cooking gas (LPG) scheme, financial inclusion initiative, start-up enterpreneurs, health scheme and Digitial India.
