PM Narendra Modi Congratulates Nepal's Newly Elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli

KP Sharma Oli, who had previously served as the country's Prime Minister from October 11, 2015, to August 3, 2016, is the first premier of Nepal after the promulgation of the new constitution in 2015.

New Delhi, February: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated K P Sharma Oli on being sworn in as Nepal's Prime Minister for the second time. Prime Minister Modi spoke with his Nepalese counterpart on the phone and congratulated him on assuming the office.

KP Sharma Oli was sworn in as the 41st Prime Minister of Nepal, earlier on Thursday. President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 65-year-old Prime Minister at a function held at the President's Office, Shital Niwas, in Maharajgunj.

Oli, who had previously served as the country's Prime Minister from October 11, 2015, to August 3, 2016, is the first premier of Nepal after the promulgation of the new constitution in 2015. Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) UML's Oli is well-known for his pro-China stance.

Earlier in the day, Sher Bahadur Deuba, while addressing the nation from the Prime Minister's Official residence, announced his resignation from the post, deeming his tenure successful.

"For the implementation of the constitution, the conduction of all three-tier elections has been completed successfully which was my responsibility to be completed. We now have arrived at the stage of formation of the new federal government. To facilitate the government formation I hereby announce my resignation from the post," Deuba had said.
