New Delhi, April 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a state-visit to the United Kingdom, attended the opening session of the two-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meet (CHOGM) on Thursday. On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister interacted with an array of world leaders representing the nations which are part of the 53-member grouping.

Among leaders whom the PM met include his counterpart of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, Gambian President Adama Barrow, President of Seychelles Danny Faure, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

Apart from the brief interactions today, Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Bangladesh's Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier in the day, Modi was received by UK PM Theresa May at the Buckingham Palace, where the CHOGM is being held. In the inaugural address by Queen Elizabeth II, the Head of Commonwealth, she appealed the member nations to accept Prince Charles as her successor in the near future.
