Mumbai, June 22: The Bombay High Court has rejected the plea which seeks an extension on plastic ban implementation in Maharashtra on Friday. After the dismissal, the ban will continue from June 23 onwards. But there is mounting confusion among the citizens, regarding which all types of plastic items have been banned and which are been exempted
Moreover, to answer the queries of citizens and to dispel the confusion, Mumbai civic body is seen undertaking various programmes. The BMC has also organised a three-day long exhibition at National Sports Club of India (NSCL) in Worli from today till June 24. In the event, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan and Kajol have been invited to interact with the audience and encourage them to reduce the use of plastic from their daily life.
Reportedly, the BMC had collected 1.42 lakh kg of plastic post ban. Also, it created a map for the benefit of the citizens to locate the closest plastic collection centres in their area.
Furthermore, to make the ban successful, it has also decided to impose fines from June 23 onwards. A fine of Rs. 5000 will be levied on first-time offenders.
Besides this, the civic body has also proposed to reduce the penalty from Rs. 5, 000 to Rs 200 to provide some leeway to the general public from the hefty fines. However, as the law committee of BMC cannot take the decision, it has sent the proposal to the state, which will finally offer some clarification on fine amount. Until then, the common man may also have to shell out Rs. 5000 like commercial establishments if they caught with plastic.
