Lucknow, July 6: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Friday decided to impose a ban on use of plastic in the state. As per the order, the use of plastic will be banned from July 15 onwards.

Recently, the Maharashtra government banned the use of plastic products and thermocol across the state. It also fixed the fine for the first-time and second-time offenders as Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.

A third violation will attract a fine of Rs 25,000 and three months in jail. However, the government later eased a ban against single-use plastic after plastic industry bodies urged for softer rules and extensions.

According to the Maharashtra government's notification, e-commerce companies are allowed to use plastic packaging for three more months. The government has given three months for the disposal of existing plastic stocks.
