23 March, New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi, be ready to face problems today as Ola and Uber has decided to stay off the roads and have announced a complete shutdown. Announcements of an indefinite nationwide strike by drivers of the app-based aggregators was already done in key cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune before. The impact of it was maximum in Mumbai till now. However, Ola called off their strike on Wednesday and Uber drivers resumed their duties on Thursday in Mumbai.

According to the Hindustan Times, an official of the Sarvodaya Drivers Association, a key cab drivers’ union in the National Capital Region (NCR), said on Thursday that Ola and Uber cab services won’t be available on Friday in view of a ‘large-scale’ protest against the cab aggregators. The demands of the drivers and the unions in Delhi are better compensation, better verification of riders and streamlining of shared duties. Reportedly, some drivers were already on strike on Thursday, as a result of which passengers had to face huge delay in availing a cab and commuting was a big task for many in Noida and Ghaziabad.

Ola and Uber drivers in Mumbai, went on an indefinite strike from March 18, midnight and they called off their strike after a four day protest. Commuters in Mumbai faced huge problem as a result of this. The Mumbai strike was called by Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena which claimed that several drivers are not being able to cover costs due to falling business. Ola and Uber had apparently given big assurances to the drivers, but today they are unable to cover their costs. After investing Rs 5-7 lakh and were expecting to make Rs 1.5 lakh a month, these drivers today are unable to make even half of this because of the mismanagement by these companies. There have been reports of violence as well reported as MNS leader Nitin Nandgaonkar on Monday broke the windshield of a taxi which was plying despite the strike called by Ola and Uber Drivers in Mumbai.
