Ola & Uber Indefinite Strike Enters 3rd Day: Surge Pricing & Delay Issues Continue For Commuters
The strike started on March 18 midnight and has been called by the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena which has claimed that several drivers are not being able to cover costs due to falling business.
March 21, Mumbai: The Ola and Uber indefinite strike has entered its third day today. As compared to the other two days of the strike, reportedly, today there are more app-based cars out in the streets of Mumbai. However, the issue of surge pricing and delay continues to be there for the commuters.
The strike started on March 18 midnight and has been called by the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena which has claimed that several drivers are not being able to cover costs due to falling business. Ola and Uber had apparently given big assurances to the drivers, but today they are unable to cover their costs. After investing Rs 5-7 lakh and were expecting to make Rs 1.5 lakh a month, these drivers today are unable to make even half of this because of the mismanagement by these companies.
According to a Times of India report, before the strike started, Sanjay Naik of Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena had said, "If we find any cab on the road after Sunday midnight, we will request the driver with folded hands. If he does not listen, we may handle the issue Maharashtra Navnirman Sena-style.”Nandgaonkar on Monday broke the windshield of a taxi which was plying despite the strike called by Ola and Uber Drivers in Mumbai.
In the video, MNS leader Nitin Nandgaonkar can be seen breaking the car's windshield and warning the taxi driver saying that "No cabs, all the cabs should be closed." In Mumbai alone, there are over 45,000 such cabs but a slump in business has seen a drop of about 20 per cent in their numbers.
