Kolkata, July 4: Newly-wed Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan and her husband Nikhil Jain on Thursday hosted their wedding reception in Kolkata where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was invited as a special guest among others. Actor-MP Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan's best friend, also attended the wedding reception at ITC Royal along with other politicians, film directors and actors. In the photo, Nusrat Jahan, her husband Nikhil Jain, Mamata Banerjee, Mimi Chakraborty and TMC leader Kalyan Bandyopadhyay are seen posing for cameras. The couple tied the knot in the picturesque Turkish town of Bodrum on June 19. She wore a red designer lehenga for her wedding. The young parliamentarian couldn't attend initial sittings of Parliament due to her wedding ceremony and took oath as an MP on June 25. Ahead of her wedding reception in Kolkata, Nusrat Jahan personally called the likes of Mamata Banerjee, senior TMC leaders like Partha Chatterjee, Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim, Abhishek Banerjee and also eminent industrialists of Kolkata. Food and Supplies minister Jyotipriyo Mullick and all the MLAs under Basirhaat constituency from where the young actress won the Lok Sabha poll have received personal invitations. For the reception, Nusrat Jahan personally took special care of the dessert (including special sweet from Basirhat) and Bengali food section. "The cuisine is a mix of Italian, Bengali, pure vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The vegetarian section is being planned carefully keeping her in-laws' (who are Jains) guest list in mind," a close associate of Nusrat had told IANS ahead of the event.
Earlier today, the TMC parliamentarian attended the inaugural ceremony of the Kolkata ISKCON Rath Yatra to Jagannath temple. The presence of Nusrat Jahan sent a powerful message to her critics who slammed her for wearing sindoor and mangalsutra during her oath in parliament after her wedding.
