No Non-Veg Display Outside Eateries after South Delhi Municipal Corporation Proposal
We will have to wait to know the faith of those scrumptious kebabs and juicy chicken.
The civic body of South Delhi which is ruled by the BJP has asked to not display non-veg food outside eateries in Delhi citing hygiene and sentimental reasons. The resolution was approved by the SDMC and the final confirmation will be out on January 3 in their next meeting. It will take about 2 months to frame the policy later according to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
The proposal was approved by Leader of the House Shikha Rai who said, “It has been observed that shops displaying non-veg outside their premises attracts dogs and raise hygiene issue. Besides, it is also about hurting the sentiments of people who are vegetarian.” Often hotels and stalls display kebabs, shawarma and tandoor outside the hotel to tempt and lure customers inside. “If restaurant owners are found displaying non-vegetarian items in public, action against them should be taken as per the municipal law,” the proposal stated.
They demand the food kept on the outside be vegetarian but then if contamination is a concern then even vegetarian food should not be on display. It is a private member resolution so the commissioner will have to examine it. So, it could be accepted or rejected. South Delhi has a lot of eateries and hotels selling meat products.
The areas include Hauz Khas, New Friends' Colony, Kamal Cinema in Safdarjung Green Park, Amar Colony Market near Lajpat Nagar. This proposal has got severe reactions from the opposition party and even the medical fraternity.
Let us wait to know the faith of those scrumptious kebabs and juicy chicken that we see outside the stall, move inside or we can tempt over them a little more.
