'No Atrocities Against Women in India', Claims Guna MLA PL Shakya; Suggests Youth to 'Avoid Making Girlfriend-Boyfriend'
Shakya had earlier drawn flak after he lambasted Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli for organising his marriage ceremony in Italy.
Bhopal, Mar 25: A legislator from Madhya Pradesh's Guna stirred a controversy on Sunday after he claimed that women in India are not subjected to any form of atrocities. The MLA also has a recommendation for the youth: 'Avoid making girlfriends and boyfriends'.
The remarks were made by Guna MLA PL Shakya, who dismissed the statistics highlighting the escalating level of violence against women in different parts of the nation.
"Hamare desh mein mahilaon ki pooja 4 baar hoti hai hum kaise maan lein ki atyachaar ho raha hai? Aankde kuch bhi batate hain (In our country, women are worshipped four times. How can we believe that women are being subjected to atrocities. The statistics are misleading)," Shakya said, while speaking to news agency ANI.
His comment was followed by a bizarre suggestion: "Paashchatya sanskriti se door rehna chahiye. Na girlfriend banana chahiye na boyfriend (Stay away from the influence of the western culture. Avoid making girlfriends and boyfriends)."
Shakya had earlier drawn flak after he lambasted Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli for organising his marriage ceremony in Italy. The BJP legislator said such acts prove that "those hailed as youth icon have no patriotism". "They earned money and fame in India but they didn’t find any appropriate place to marry on the land where Lord Ram got married," Shakya had said.
