We need paternity leave and we need more of it. In an impressive move, food-delivery giant, Zomato has set a new benchmark by introducing paternity leave in India. Zomato founder, Deepinder Goyal announced this move in a blog post on June 3, stating that new fathers will get 26 weeks paid leave, same as their women employees. Besides, the new parents will be given an endowment of USD 1,000 (above Rs. 69.000) per child, as they welcome their new baby to the world. Twitterati is extremely happy and cheering the firm’s recent initiative and the reactions are a proof. Differently-Abled Zomato Delivery Boy Going Viral for Delivering Food on His Tricycle; Twitterati Inspired and Motivated.

In the blog, Goyal has covered almost all the significant queries that any of its employees or people would want to know, about this new move. Citing a lack of universal paid paternal leave as the fundamental issue that ultimately leads to fewer women leaders in organisations, community and the nation, Goyal said this resulted in a pressing “lack of diversity across all levels of the organisation, and needs to be solved proactively.” The policy even applies to non-birthing parents in cases of surrogacy, adoption and same-sex partners.
