Jaipur, September 24: The Rajasthan health department has issued an alert after a case of Zika virus was reported from Jaipur. According to reports, 85-year-old Shakuntala Devi, a resident of Shastri Nagar in Jaipur, has been detected with Zika virus. Officials said that this was a first such case in the state. According to a PTI report, the woman was admitted to Sawai Man Singh hospital on September 11 with joint pain, redness in eyes, and weakness. After she tested negative for dengue and swine flu, her samples were sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, where she tested positive for Zika. According to Hindustan Times, Dr VK Mathur, the director of public health, has said that while the patient is recovering, she has been asked not to travel anywhere and people have been advised not to visit her. Dr Mathur added that a survey was being conducted on people living in the neighbourhood of the patient's residence in Shastri Nagar. He said that high-density larvae were found outside the patient's house following which fogging has been carried out by the health department.
