Yogendra Yadav Detained by Delhi Police At Red Fort During Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act Protest

Delhi, December 19: National President of Swaraj India and activist Yogendra Yadav was detained on Wednesday by Delhi Police at Red Fort. He was among the Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters. Yadav chanted "Bharat Mata ki Jai" slogan while he was being taken to the police station. Massive protests against the Citizenship Bill have been planned across the nation today despite prohibitory orders. "I have just been detained from Lal Qila. About a thousand protesters already detained. Thousands on the way. Am told we are being taken to Bawana. साझी विरासत, साझी शहादत, साझी नागरिकता," Yadav said in a tweet.

Two protests are scheduled in Delhi despite the administration has denied permission, Delhi police had imposed prohibitory orders under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Section 144 near the Red Fort ahead of the protest. Yogendra Yadav Detained At Red Fort:

In view of protests, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed gates of 14 metro stations. "Entry and exit gates of Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan Marg, Udyog Bhawan, ITO, Pragati Maidan and Khan Market are closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations," the DMRC tweeted. The gates of Central Secretariat station are also closed but interchange facility is available for passengers.

The Citizenship Amendment Act grants Indian nationality to persecuted religious minorities, like Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Christians and Parsis from the Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Indigenous communities, especially in Assam and the northeast, are demanding the repeal of Citizenship law as it may change the demography of areas.
