New Delhi, August 29: Priti Adani chairperson of Adani Foundation and wife of Adani Group head Gautam Adani recently pointed out at a Conclave that the "working women" ratio in India, was actually much lower than that of neighbouring countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Working Indian Women Embrace Bike-Taxi Services in Big Way.
According to an Indian Express report, she has been quoted as saying, "In our country, for every 10 earning men, there were only three working women in 2018. This ratio is very low. It is much lower than our neighbouring countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh and abysmally below Bhutan."
Priti further spoke about the low literacy rate among women in comparison to men. "The 2011 census shows that the men have a clear 16 percent majority over literate women," she added. Addressing at a women leadership conclave organised by the CII Indian Women Network, Adani highlighted the dismal condition of women in our country.
It is to be pointed out that women not only devote long hours to their offices but also have their respective household work to complete once they return home. Do women get help from their male family members? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report released last year, on an average day, 19 percent of men do the household work like laundry and other similar tasks while women do 49 percent of it.
In another study conducted earlier this month, out of 665 district court complexes, 100 courts have no toilets for women. Out of those which have washrooms, only 40 percent are functional. So when something as basic as toilets are not there for working women, it becomes difficult for them to continue with their work. While women may be demanding equal pay and other rights, there is still a long way to go.
