Bhubaneswar, December 3: A woman in Odisha's Kendrapara district died after she was set ablaze allegedly by her in-laws over dowry demands, police said Monday. The woman in her early 30s died at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack while undergoing treatment on Monday. She was identified as Bharati Swain, a resident of Balisuan village in Kendrapara district.
The woman in her dying statement said that "she was set ablaze by her mother-in-law and three sisters-in-law. They allegedly poured kerosene and tied her hands and legs before setting her on fire."

The police have detained the womans mother-in-law and three sisters-in-law on the basis of complaint made by the victim's brother Rashmi Ranjan Das.
The incident took place when the husband and father-in law of the victim were not present at house last night.
The victim's brother said, a complaint was also made earlier against her in-laws for dowry torture. Then, the police did not take the matter seriously, the victim's brother alleged. Bharati of Badapala village in the district had married Nirmal Swain, son of Nisamani Swain of Balisuan village four years ago. She has one girl child.
