Shimla, April 30: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into a case of sexual assault that took place in Shimla on Sunday. A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a moving car in Shimla. Apart from ordering magisterial inquiry, Jai Ram Thakur also directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to form an SIT to investigate the matter further.
"I have given orders for a magisterial inquiry and asked for a report within 24 hours. I have also ordered DGP to form an SIT as soon as possible and strictest action against culprits. The matter will be solved soon and culprits will not be let off," the chief minister told news agency ANI. The woman lodged a complaint through Gudiya helpline 1515 and alleged that she was raped by a person in the moving car at around 10 pm on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Shukla said. According to the victim, she was coming from Mall road on foot when a car stopped near her. She was pulled inside it and was raped in the moving vehicle. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered in this regard at Dhalli police station, Shukla said. No arrest has been made so far.
