Mumbai, July 15: A pregnant woman on-board the LTT-Visakhapatnam Express delivered twins in train at Kalyan station. The 30-year-old was assisted by the Railway staff, including the medical team. The mother and the babies were subsequently admitted at the Rukminibai hospital for further treatment. Their condition is reported to be safe and stable.

The woman, identified as Shaikh Salma Tabassum, is a resident of Ghatkopar in Mumbai. She was travelling back from Visakhapatnam along with her husband on train number 18520. On nearing Kalyan station, she reported severe labour pain which alarmed the Railway authorities on board.

An RPF team with lady constables Neelam Gaur and Surekha Kadam rushed to Kalyan along with the Railway medical staff and addressed the situation. Since the labour pain was acute, the delivery was conducted onboard after safely halting the train at Kalyan.

Central Railway officials and staff celebrated after the safe delivery of the twins. Sweets were also distributed on-board among the passengers.

The woman's family thanked the Railways for their proactive response which ensured a safe delivery.
