Chennai, May 28: In a heartbreaking incident, a 32-year-old woman doctor, who was undergoing training at the Institute of Mental Health in Tamil Nadu's Chennai, is suspected to have died of electrocution in her hostel room in Ayanavaram. The incident occurred Sunday night due to a faulty cable while she was charging her laptop.

According to a report published by DTNext, the situation came to light when the husband's calls to Dr U Saranidhi went unanswered. Concerned, he called the hostel authorities. Following this, the hostel staff checked her room based on her husband's request and found her unconscious. She was immediately rushed to Kilpauk Government Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Deceased Came to Chennai for Training Course

Dr Saranidhi, a native of Namakkal district, completed her MD in Psychiatry at Coimbatore Medical College. She resided in Coimbatore with her husband, Dr Udhayakumar, and their five-year-old child. Dr Udhayakumar works at Coimbatore ESI Hospital. Dr Saranidhi travelled to Chennai on May 1 to attend a 25-day training course at the Institute of Mental Health in Kilpauk.

Dr Saranidhi was staying at a private hostel in Ayanavaram. Her husband, Udhayakumar, attempted to contact her on Sunday, but his calls went unanswered. After several attempts, he reached out to the hostel staff. Upon checking her room, they discovered her lying unconscious on the floor. Faulty Cable Led To Fatal Electrocution, Cops Suspect

Upon entering Dr Saranidhi's room, the police found her next to the charging cable of her laptop, which was connected to an extension box. Her mobile phone and an air cooler were also plugged into the same extension box. She was immediately rushed to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Her body has been sent for postmortem. The police have registered a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and an inquiry is ongoing.

A senior police officer said, "We checked Dr Saranidhi's laptop charging cable, which was found to be slightly damaged. We suspect that she may have been electrocuted while charging her laptop. Burn injuries on her palm further indicate the possibility of electrocution."
