North India is witnessing widespread rain and snowfall for the last two days due to active western disturbance. On Wednesday, Delhi and other parts of North India witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall which brought down the mercury considerably.

On Wednesday, Delhi and neighbouring regions, including Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall which brought down mercury considerably. Fresh snowfall was also reported in the hill states - Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The western disturbance is currently lying over Pakistan and the neighbouring regions. According to a report published in weather.com, the western disturbance along with its induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan will continue to bring widespread rain, hail storms, and snowfall across north and parts of central India. In Himachal Pradesh, due to heavy snowfall and rains, 588 roads were reportedly closed affecting the normal life in the state. The minimum temperature in the state was recorded three to seven degrees below normal. Shimla, Chamba, Kullu and Mandi districts were the worst-hit districts. According to reports, at total of 2436 electricity supply lines were disrupted and 33 water supply schemes were hampered in the state.

In Uttarakhand also, a fresh spell of snow and rains affected the normal life. Many roads were blocked because of the snowfall. The state has been under the grip of a cold wave due to the fresh spell of snowfall in the hilly regions and rains in the plains. Meanwhile Dehradun Metrological Centre has predicted that hail is likely to occur at isolated places especially in Dehradun, Haridwar, UdhamSingh Nagar, Pauri and Nainital district in the coming 24 hours.
