New Delhi, December 23: North India continued to reel under severe coldwave conditions with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting intense winter chills in the coming days. The weather agency said that cold wave conditions are expected to worsen over northern plains of India from December 25. Moreover, severe cold conditions are likely to develop over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and north Rajasthan from Wednesday i.e. December 25, on the day of Christmas. "Cold day conditions likely to abate over northern plains of India and cold wave conditions likely to develop over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and north Rajasthan from 25th December", the IMD said in its weather bulletin.

In the wake of the current weather conditions, severe cold spell is expected to hit the entire northern region. Fog reduced visibility during morning hours leading to disruption in flight and train services. Biting cold continued to sweep Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and several other northern states. Narnaul in Haryana shivered at 4.5 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Ludhiana was the coldest place recording a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius.The IMD said that dense to very dense fog is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh and also over East Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan during next 4-5 days.
