New Delhi, December 26: North India continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions with mercury dipping to 5.8 degree Celsius in Delhi on Thursday. Residents of the national capital have been waking up to chilly mornings since the last week as a severe cold wave swept through entire region. According to a weather bulletin by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the northern belt of India is expected to experience intense wave conditions over the next 3-4 days. i.e, till New Year. On Wednesday, Delhi recorded a 'severe' cold day with the maximum temperature dropping to 12.7 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature was 6 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal. Apart from Delhi, several areas including Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram and parts of neighbouring states Punjab and Haryana were also under the grip of severe cold wave. While Chandigarh saw a low of 6.9 degrees Celsius, Narnaul in Haryana was the coldest with a minimum of 3.2 degrees Celsius. "Cold day to severe cold day conditions likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar during next 5 days", the IMD stated. In the wake of the intense cold wave, several trains were delayed due to dense fog in several parts of the northern India. The regional meteorological department official has predicted that biting cold weather conditions were likely to continue in the region till December 30.
