Wife Sets Target Of Three Chains a Day For Thief Husband To Lead Lavish Life; Duo Arrested By Karnataka Police

A chain snatcher arrested by Karnataka police during interrogation revealed that his wife used to set a target of snatching three chains a day.

Bengaluru, September 19: A chain snatcher arrested by Karnataka police during interrogation revealed that his wife used to set a target for him of snatching three chains a day. According to a report published in Deccan Herald, Achyuth Kumar was arrested after seven months and 106-chain snatching incidents across Karnataka. A total of Rs 1.05 crore jewellery was recovered from his house in Kumbalagodu near Kengeri.

Kumar’s wife, Mahadevi enticed him to chain snatching. For living a lavish lifestyle, she forced him to snatch three chains a day. Mahadevi used to buys costly bags and also preferred to go on vacations. According to the report, she made regular trips to Goa and stayed at resorts. Kumar purchased two SUVs and five bikes for her wife. A native of Koliwad in Hubballi The 31-year-old thief is a native of Koliwad.

The police arrested Kumar a month back. After her husband’s arrest, police launched a manhunt operation to nab Mahadevi for abetting the crime. Mahadevi disguised herself as a maid to take shelter at an orphanage in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district.

According to the report, small-time thief, Kumar turned a habitual chain-snatcher after he married Mahadevi. He lied to her wife that he was into real estate business, but after knowing the truth, Mahadevi asked him to get money so that she could lead lavish life. Soon she set a target of three chains for Kumar. Bengaluru Police awarded Rs 1 lakh reward to Constable Chandra Kumar of Jnanabharati Police station for arresting Kumar.
