Mumbai, September 5: Sunil Sangwan, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, will contest the Haryana Assembly election from the Charkhi Dadri constituency. The name was announced in the 67 candidates list released on September 5 for the state assembly election. Sangwan worked as Bhondsi Jail Superintendent before joining the BJP.

The Haryana Assembly, with 90 seats, will hold elections on October 5, with vote counting set for October 8. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will contest from a new constituency, Ladwa, in Kurukshetra. Who is Sunil Sangwan?

Sunil Sangwan is an ex-jailor who worked as Bhondsi Jail Superintendent before joining the BJP. Sangwan spent over 22 years in government service, joining the Haryana Prisons Department in 2002. He served as the superintendent of several jails, including Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, where he worked for five years. He has two children, a daughter and a son, both serving as captains in the Army. Two months ago, Sunil's father, Satpal Sangwan, left the Congress party to join the state's ruling party. Sangwan, joined the BJP on Monday, September 2. alongside former JJP leader Devender Singh Babli. The event was attended by state party chief Mohan Lal Badoli, former Tripura CM Biplab Deb, and other senior party leaders.
