Mumbai, July 7: Mihir Shah, son of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, is absconding after the BMW car allegedly driven by him collided with a scooter in Mumbai's Worli, leading to a woman's death. The incident occurred on the morning of July 7. The Mumbai Police have detained Rajesh Shah and his driver for questioning after the hit-and-run incident. Calling it a "very unfortunate incident," Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde promised that the case would be investigated impartially.

According to police sources, Mihir Shah had been drinking at a bar in Juhu before asking his driver to take him on a long drive, NDTV reported. Upon reaching Worli, Shah insisted on driving the vehicle himself. Shortly after taking the wheel, the BMW collided with the scooter carrying the Nakvas, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area. The couple, who are fish-sellers, were returning from Sassoon Dock when the accident occurred. The impact of the collision threw them onto the bonnet of the SUV. As the car continued to speed, Kaveri Nakva was run over. The vehicle fled the scene, and Kaveri was later declared dead at the hospital. A case has been registered under the new criminal code Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita under sections relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving and destruction of evidence, among others. Provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been invoked.
