Jammu, July 27: National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah on Friday questioned if Rahul Gandhi continues to be the caretaker of the Congress party until a full-time president is found. Abdullah took to Twitter and asked who is the 'Honourable Congress President'? “Hon’ble Congress President has approved.........” but who is the Congress President? Does Rahul continue as caretaker until a full time president is found?", Abdullah tweeted. The question by the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister comes after Eknath Gaikwad was appointment as Mumbai's Congress' working president. While Rahul Gandhi Claims 'no one from the Gandhi family will be the Party President', there is a growing demand for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to take over her brother's place at the party helm. Senior party leaders they wanted Priyanka to take over the post of the Congress President but said, the decision is upto Priyanka herself.

On July 3, Rahul Gandhi formally resigned as the Congress president. The Gandhi scion announced the decision on Twitter by posting a 4-page letter. In his resignation letter Gandhi said he is responsible for his Congress' defeat in Lok Sabha elections. "It was an honour for him to serve the party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of the nation", Gandhi said.

Gandhi had taken the moral responsibility for the party's poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. He resigned as Congress president at a CWC meeting on May 25, two days after the election results were declared.
