Durgapur, July 25: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old girl was burnt to death after her mobile phone caught fire while she was talking on the phone. The incident took place in Deshbandhu Nagar Benachity in West Bengal's Durgapur district. The deceased has been identified as Riya Banerjee. She suffered around 90 per cent burn injuries. According to a report in DNA India, the incident took place when Banerjee was talking on the phone using headphones and charging at the same time. Suddenly due to a short circuit, it caught fire and gravely injured her. During the episode, the victim was alone at home since her mother had gone to work. The incident came to light when the neighbours heard Banerjee screaming and rushed towards her house and discovered that she was badly injured. The neighbours immediately informed the police and took her to hospital but she succumbed to her injuries, reported DNA India.
A fire department officials said that her phone was half-burnt reportedly due to short circuit. Meanwhile, cops said that a post-mortem will be conducted to know the actual cause of death.
