Kolkata, August 23: At least 20 people have been injured in a clash that broke out between two groups in West Bengal on Wednesday. Reports inform that morphed images of women of a family were allegedly posted on social media, triggering a violent clash. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place in Samudragarh town of Purba Bardhaman district. Locals informed the Police that many such incidences have been reported during the past few months.

"We noticed morphed images of members of our family posted with abusive captions on Facebook", a local was quoted by ANI. He further added saying that the culprit has been found and a case has been registered. The local informed that the matter was resolved with police intervention but after namaz on Wednesday, some miscreants attacked and hurled bombs at them.

According to reports,  several vulgar images of local women went viral on social media after which residents of Mathpara village caught a suspect, who was identified as Baki Sheikh. Local villagers and followers of Baki Sheikh attacked each other with sticks and rods while several houses at the village were vandalized.  After clashed turned violent, heavy police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) rushed to the scene.

Police said that at least 10 persons of both the fighting groups have been detained and a probe has been initiated into the matter. The accused has been booked under various sections of the IPC, the Explosive Substances Act and The West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order Act.
