West Bengal: Massive Protests in Asansol by Party Workers After TMC Councillor Shot Dead

Massive protests took place in Asansol by TMC workers on Sunday after Khalid Khan, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor from Manbedia area of Kulti, was shot dead by bike-borne miscreants on the night of August 24. No arrests have been made yet. The police investigation is underway.

Kolkata, August 26: Massive protests took place in Asansol by Trinamool Congress (TMC)workers on Sunday after Khalid Khan, a TMC councillor from Manbedia area of Kulti, was shot dead by bike-borne miscreants on the night of August 24. No arrests have been made yet. The police investigation is underway. The TMC leader was taken to Asansol Zilla Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. According to Khan’s brother, the deceased was on his way home when three bike-borne men opened fire. The family has named further three suspects-Kader Sheikh, Tinku Sheikh and Shahid Sheikh. They have alleged that the culprits had allegedly attempted to murder Khan four years ago as well. TMC general secretary Partha Chatterjee has assured that strong action will be taken against the persons responsible for the killing.

Early last month, clashes broke out between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress workers in West Bengal, with an instance reported from Asansol. The ruckus started while the TMC was organising a blood donation camp in the region. Workers from both the parties hurled abuses and pelted stones at each other.

West Bengal has been witnessing several incidents of clashes between BJP and TMC workers. Both the parties have blamed each for the incidents of violence.
