Kolkata, June 25: In another incident of mob violence, a teacher in West Bengal was brutally beaten up and pushed off a moving train for not chanting the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan. Reports inform that the 26-year-old madrasa teacher claimed that he was beaten up and was pushed from a moving train by a group of men on Thursday while he was on his journey from Canning in South 24 Parganas district to Hooghly. According to a report by Indian Express, the teacher identified as Hafeez Mohd Sahrukh Haldar was travelling to Hooghly when the incident took place. Haldar, a resident of Basanti in South 24 Parganas, said during his travel, a group of people were chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inside the compartment and asked him to chant the same. The man added saying that when he refused, the group brutally thrashed him. Haldar added that the incident took place while the train was between Dhakuria and Park Circus stations. The group later pushed the teacher off the train at Park Circus station where he was rescued by some locals. According to details by Police, a railway police official said Haldar had minor injuries and was taken to Chittaranjan Hospital. Moreover, proper treatment was provided to the victim.
The Police informed that they have initiated an investigation into the matter, and no one has been arrested so far. The report adds saying that the victim went to Topsia police station to file a case but was told that the GRP was the right authority to approach. In the wake of the incident, a case was filed against unknown people at Ballygunge railway station under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons).
