West Bengal: Section 144 Imposed, Internet Snapped in Parts of North 24 Parganas After Communal Clash, 1 Shopkeeper Killed

Kolkata, January 2: Internet services have been snapped and Section 144 has been imposed in three Panchayat areas of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. The prohibitory orders have been imposed in these areas following clashes between members of two communities. Reports inform that the clash was triggered by 'unnatural' death of a shopkeeper. Police informed that internet services have been stopped in Duttapukur, Amdanga and Deganga areas of the district.

On Tuesday, clashes broke out in Duttapukur after a shopkeeper was found hanging inside a room of a local club in Hatkhola area. The IPS officer informed that 12 persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the clashes. West Bengal: 3 Police Injured in Firing by Miscreants in 24 Parganas North District.

According to a report by PTI, the club had organised a fair where the shopkeeper belonging to a particular community of the neighbouring Kashimpur village had put up a stall. The report added that the shopkeeper was allegedly beaten up by members of the club after he had a fight with a woman buyer on Tuesday.

Following the brutal attack, the shopkeeper was found hanging from the ceiling in a room of the club. After the family members of the shopkeeper got to know about the brutal attack, they vandalised several shops, houses, vehicles besides setting them on fire in Hatkhola area.
