Berhampore, Sep 14: A 10-year-old boy was hanged upside down and tortured by a shopkeeper for allegedly stealing Rs 200. The horrific incident took place in Antardwip village in West Bengal's Berhampore town on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Sofikul Islam, filmed the torture and posted the video of it on Facebook.

Alleging that he caught the boy red-handed stealing Rs 200, Sofikul Islam started beating him. He along with his friends, Nuhu Sheikh and Najimul Sheikh, hanged the minor upside down and beat him with sticks till the skin on his back cracked. The accused also filmed the torture and shared the video on his Facebook page. Soon the video went viral, drawing sharp reactions. Under fire, Sofikul Islam later removed the clip from his page. Following the incident, the victim's father lodged a complaint acting on which the police arrested the three accused. Cops also said they could not find any proof of the alleged theft.

“My son did not steal any money. He was tortured solely on the basis of suspicion. He can barely move now. I want stern punishment for all the accused," the victim's father, Sanwar Sheikh, told Hindustan Times. The boy has been discharged from the hospital after treatment.
