West Bengal: BJP Workers Call for 12-Hour Bandh in Barrackpore to Protest Against Attack on MP Arjun Singh

Kolkata, September 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday called for a 12-hour bandh in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas district to protest against the attack on its MP Arjun Singh. According to a tweet by ANI, the bandh will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm on Monday, i.e. September 2. Singh, the Barrackpore MP, was attacked on Sunday when he was going for a blood donation camp in the area. Singh said while he was on his way to the blood donation camp, he saw a few TMC workers attempting to capture a local BJP office. Earlier on Sunday, Singh had accused TMC workers of vandalising his car and capturing his party office in North 24 Parganas district. "I was attacked and my car was vandalised. People were protesting peacefully. Police Commissioner Manoj Verma abused me. My residence is also being attacked," Singh said.

Singh further alleged that there was no security and law and order in the area. "Anything can happen here. Even the car of a Member of Parliament is being attacked", he added. In the wake of the attack, BJP's Working President J.P. Nadda charged the TMC with attempting to "capture" his party's office in North 24 Parganas district and perpetrating violence on Singh and his son. "It is highly condemnable. By resorting to such ill-means, TMC has been murdering the democracy time and again in West Bengal," Nadda tweeted.
