West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Convoy Attacked in East Midnapore, TMC Blamed

The convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh attacked in East Midnapore's Khejuri area on Tuesday evening. The BJP has alleged that the attack was carried out by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons.

East Midnapore, May 7: The convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh was attacked in East Midnapore's Khejuri area on Tuesday evening. The BJP has alleged that the attack was carried out by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons. Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was also a part of the convoy, alleged that "TMC goons had blocked the roads but the West Bengal Police did not help them." "I am appalled at such brazen abuse of power by Mamata Banerjee whose people have thrown all democratic norms to the gutter. Is this the New India that we dream of?" read one of Sarma's tweet. West Bengal Poll Violence: BJP Candidates' Office, House Ransacked by Alleged 'TMC Goons'.

He also added that many of the party workers were injured and both the leaders have been "stuck" at the place. Sarma and Ghosh escaped unhurt while two vehicles were vandalised. He added that over 20 motorbikes were damaged in the incident.

Sharma further said that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials helped them in moving away from the place while three saffron workers were taken away by TMC workers in front of the police.

Meanwhile, the episode comes after several incidents of violence was reported in West Bengal in the fifth phase of 2019 Lok Sabha polls. On Monday, two BJP and one TMC candidates were attacked in the state. Around half-a-dozen of violence, in which people were injured, was brought to Election Commission's notice.
