Kolkata, May 26: With reports of CBI issuing a notice to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear at the Kolkata CBI office tomorrow, the latest development is arriving that Anuj Sharma, currently posted as AGD and IGP Operation, has been reinstated as the Commissioner of Police of Kolkata.
Earlier, with violence in the state groping during the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the Election Commission had replaced Anuj Sharma with IPS Rajesh Kumar. After this decision, politics over the transfer gained momentum and West Bengal Chief Secretary even questioned Election Commission's authority on the transfer issue. Earlier in the day, the CBI issued a notice to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear at the Kolkata CBI office tomorrow. The CBI team also carried out a search operation at Kumar’s house.
Along with this, the CBI issued a lookout notice against the former Kolkata police commissioner, which prevents him to leave the country without taking prior permission from the court. Kumar has been named accused with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam case. The investigation in the Saradha chit fund scam began in 2014, where over 1.7 million depositors were duped to the extent of Rs 3,500 crore.
