Kolkata, October 17: The rescue operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to look for three miners trapped inside a coal mine in West Bengal entered the fourth day on Thursday. The three men got trapped in a coal mine in Asansol's Kulti area on October 13. The incident took place when four people tried to dig the mine illegally of which three got trapped in it and are yet to be found.
According to locals, the incident occurred on Sunday late at night when four people tried to dig the mine illegally. As soon as the incident was reported, Police rushed to the spot to take a stock of the situation. On receiving the information about the miners trapped in the mine, Kulti police station officials along with Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) officials reached the spot and started rescue and relief work. Locals informed that the out of the four people, one managed to escape while three were trapped inside the coal mine. Officials who are a part of the rescue operations informed that the mine consists of poisonous methane gas inside and all three people are in an unconscious state due to its effect. Authorities carrying out the rescue work said as the entrance of the mine is narrow, theyare trying to widen the entrance and rescue the three men.
