Bhopal, November 13: In a bizarre incident in Madhya Pradesh, a couple taking part in the Chief Minister Kanyadan Yojana was seen sitting idle in the mandap and refraining from performing any rituals. The incident came to light after several officials and people noticed the couple not taking phera or the groom applying "sindoor" to his to-be wife. The alleged incident occurred on Tuesday, November 12, in Madhya Pradesh's Nagda district.

The wedding took place under Chief Minister Kanyadan Yojana at Narendra Modi Sports Complex. According to an FPJ report, 81 couples tied the knot according to Hindu rituals and Muslim traditions. The couple also said that the Khachrod Panchayat asked them to participate in the mass wedding ceremony as they could get a government cheque of INR 49,000 and other gifts. The couple, who are said to be engaged, also said that they set a few conditions for participating in the event. However, the couple ran out of luck when a few locals and guests caught them red-handed, not performing the rituals. After this, they alerted the officials about the same. The report also stated that couples from across Madhya Pradesh attended the mass wedding ceremony. Meanwhile, it is to be seen if the officials take cognizance of the alleged incident, as several couples are said to have not complied with the guidelines.
